About Thai Massage
Traditional Thai Massage is an ancient system of healing with its roots in Yoga, Ayurvedic medicine, and Buddhist spiritual practice. This unique and complete system of Yoga Therapy combines rhythmic massage, acupressure, gentle twisting, deep passive stretching and meditation in a slow, unhurried, flowing, harmonious full body massage.
Often called ‘Lazy Man’s Yoga’, it is performed on a mat, on the floor, rather than on a raised couch. There is no oil used and the recipient is lying fully clothed in loose comfortable clothing throughout the massage.
Thai massage aims to provide relaxation, balance to the body, healthy blood circulation, and activation of the body’s energy lines or meridians.
The therapist will use a traditional combination of pressing and kneading techniques on the muscles, energy line and acupressure points work, and yoga-like stretches, in a routine that can incorporate over a hundred different techniques. The application of the Buddhist quality of ‘Metta’ or loving kindness, is also an integral part of a thai massage.
